The Fundi Network was launched in 2003 as Men on the Side of the Road. They strived to bridge the gap between South Africa’s economy and unemployed marginlised people. Their market research indicated that their focus on the problem (unemployment) was not doing enough to highlight the skills, abilities and employability of their members. In late 2011, they shifted their focus from the problem to focus on the solution – connecting employers to unemployed people with verified skills that are reliable and trustworthy - and so FUNDI was born. They are a not-for-profit organisation run on a social enterprise business model that empowers South Africans to change lives through job creation. Fundi connects; home, business owner or contractor - to workers with verified skills: from handymen to painters to domestic workers and many, many others.
